2 Suspects Injured in Officer UPPER MARLBORO, Md. Two suspects are injured after a Prince George County Police officer opened fire in the parking lot outside a Giant grocery store. The preliminary investigation reveals two members of the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement (WAVE) Team, who are detectives with the Prince George's County Police Department, were in the area when they spotted a stolen Ford Mustang. Police say a detective approached the car that had two armed suspects inside. A witness reported hearing the officer ordering a suspect not to touch the weapon. Fearing for his life and for those around them, police say the officer fired his service weapon, striking both suspects. It believed the suspects were planning a bank robbery, WNEW Jim MacKay reports. Both suspects were taken to a local hospital where one is being treated for a superficial wound and the other is being treated for non life threatening injuries. Police have recovered at least one handgun at the scene. The officer who discharged his duty weapon is a four year veteran of the Prince George's County Police Department who came to the agency from a neighboring law enforcement agency where he had worked for 12 years. He has been placed on routine, administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
